It doesn’t have to be heroin. It doesn’t have to be cocaine. It doesn’t have to be pills. It doesn’t have to be drugs. We all have habits, and though they may not be as dangerous to our immediate well-being as the aforementioned, they can be equally as destructive over the course of time, in our own sin, in our own skin.
Some of us eat too much, too often, and that will slowly destroy our bodies. Some of us watch too much Netflix or play too many video games, and that will slowly compromise our ability to prosper and succeed by taking away time. Some of us shop too much, and that will slowly destroy our wallet, which will slowly destroy our security. Some of us are addicted to sunshine, and that will slowly destroy our skin and put us at risk. Some of us are addicted to fitness, and that will put us at risk of exhaustion and injury. Some of us are addicted to pornography, and that will potentially harm our relationships and our perspective on love. Finally, some of us are addicted to drugs and alcohol, which, as we all know, will put us at a more immediate risk and will put our livelihood in jeopardy. All of these are dangerous things that we can DO, and there are MANY more habits that I failed to mention.
One of the most dangerous things we SAY is “at least.” At least we don’t do drugs. At least we didn’t get another drink. At least we used to eat healthy. At least we used to be successful. At least we didn’t hurt anyone else. At least we didn’t kill anyone. At least we are still alive. The moment we utter the words “at least,” is the very moment we start making excuses, start making ourselves weak, and start allowing negativity to come in and consume us. The truth is, I expect A LOT more from you. Your loved ones expect A LOT more from you. YOU, should expect A LOT more from YOU! Do NOT reduce yourself to settling and lowering expectations. RISE UP to the occasion and CONQUER LIFE, before death conquers you!
